| Item Description: | Six letters from Lafayette to John Holker, French consul general in Philadelphia, dated 9 January 1779, 30 June 1780, 7 July 1780, 14 August 1780, 15 August 1780 and 14 April 1781, relating to procuring military supplies. In the letter of 7 July 1780 Lafayette asks Holker to be on the lookout for a white horse for him to buy, "Un des ces chevaux blancs", the editor remarks, "qui étaient se grande coquetterie et qui restent dans l'imagination populaire associés à son souvenir."
