In Lyon's Saint-Paul district, a clock-maker leads a peaceful life shared between his work, his friends and his son Bernard. But then his boy goes on the run after killing a man. Assisting Inspector Guiboud with his enquiries, the distraught father realizes he knew nothing about his son.
